Bending Process Diagram

This tutorial has guided you through creating a Bending Process Diagram, from understanding its components to customizing its appearance. Software Ideas Modeler makes it easy to visualize complex processes, improving comprehension and communication across various applications.

The Bending Process Diagram is a specialized type of block diagram used to map out and visualize various steps or stages within a linear process. It consists of several key elements that work together to convey the flow and transitions within a process effectively.

Bending Process Diagram Elements

Process Container

Process container is the overarching framework that houses the entire process. It visually encapsulates the sequence of steps or operations, making it clear where the process begins and ends.

It has these settings:

  • Default Connector Kind: Determines the type of connectors used by default when linking blocks.
  • Default Shape Type: Sets the default shape for all blocks within the container unless overridden.
  • Even Shape Type: Specifies the shape type for even-numbered blocks, allowing for visual alternation and emphasis.
  • Odd Shape Type: Similarly, specifies the shape type for odd-numbered blocks.
  • Start Shape Type: Defines the shape used for the first block in the process, highlighting the beginning.
  • End Shape Type: Defines the shape used for the last block in the process, marking the conclusion.

Block

Each block within the process container represents a distinct step or operation in the process. Blocks are the primary components used to break down the process into manageable, understandable parts.

Each block can have its shape type, which, if set, overrides the container's default shape settings. This allows for individual emphasis or differentiation of specific steps within the process.

Block Connector

Block connectors are the lines or arrows that link blocks together. They indicate the flow direction from one step to the next, illustrating how the process evolves over time.

The type of connector can also be customized, overriding the container's default connector setting if not set to default.

Connector Kinds

There are these connector kinds available: Default, None, General Line, Arrow, Bidirectional Arrow, Chevron, Striped Arrow, Triangle.

Shape Types

You can use one of these shape types for your process blocks: None, Default, Rectangle, Ellipse, Square, Circle, Parallelogram, Max Rounded Rectangle, Rounded Rectangle, Rounded Square, Triangle (Left/Right/Up/Down), Diamond, Pentagon, Hexagon, Horizontal Hexagon, Octagon, Arrow Head Rectangle (Left/Right/Up/Down), Arrow (Left/Right/Up/Down), Star (5/6/7), Beveled Rectangle, Frame, Half Frame, Circle Hollow, Wave.

Usage

The Bending Process Diagram is particularly useful in situations where it's important to clearly outline a series of steps or procedures. Its applications include but are not limited to:

  • Project Management: Mapping out the phases of a project, including planning, execution, monitoring, and completion.
  • Business Operations: Documenting internal processes, such as order fulfillment, customer service procedures, or inventory management.
  • Manufacturing Processes: Outlining the various stages in the manufacturing of a product, including assembly, quality checks, and packaging.

How to Create a Bending Process Diagram

Starting a New Diagram

  • In a new or an existing project, click on the Plus button in the tab bar to show the diagram menu.
  • Type 'bend' in the search box to find the Bending Process Diagram. Press Enter or click on the diagram type item in the menu.

Editing Default Steps

  • The diagram opens with 5 default process steps. Edit these by clicking on the individual nodes and entering the desired texts.
  • If you have a predefined list of steps, right-click on the process container and select Rename (or press F2). Paste your list in the edit box that appears, and click outside the box. Each pasted line becomes a separate process node.

Appending Steps

  • To add a new step, select the process container and click on the Add Block button in the context bar. Enter the name of the new step.

Customizing the Diagram

  • Adjust space between nodes by right-clicking on the process container, choosing Container Layout, then Container Layout Settings. Modify the horizontal and vertical offset as needed.
  • Customize connectors and shapes by selecting the process container, navigating to the Properties sidebar, and adjusting the connectors, e.g. to Striped Arrows and default shape to Rounded Rectangle. You can set different shapes for start and end, odd and event process steps.
  • Apply color styles using the Styles gallery in the Home tab. Select a node and choose the desired style from the gallery to enhance visual clarity and impact.
